i was nine....i did mad amounts of homework but beyond that i recall a lot of running around outside and eating gushers. life was tough.

pasadena, california


5) Where did you hang out?
my house, bryan's house, emily's house, blake's house...every now and then the housekeeper du jour would take all of our lives into our hands and walk us up to the gang (and now i have come to realize, pedophile) infested Victory Park.


6) Did you wear contacts?
nope

7) Who was your best friend?
bryan, emily, becca, and i'll throw blake in there too

8) How many tattoos did you have?
oh i was a rebel...at any one time i might have had like three stick ons.

9) How many piercings did you have?
my ears were pierced...like, just. i had these little gold earrings with tiny little emeralds (birthstone) - i think i had to wear those for like forever before you could safely graduate to another kind of earring.

10) Did you drive a car?
no...i could barely ride a bike...

11) Had you been to a real party?
well they seemed real to me at the time but the way you've phrased this question is giving me some doubts.

my dog died that year....i was pretty unhappy about that.

my heart belonged to blake meahl.....it was not necessarily mutual.

the place was crawlin' with them!

i was sheltered from the working world for a long time.

nope....though a few of us went through a retarded phase of wearing glasses with the lenses punched out for fun or something....ugh. just...ugh. the only real words of wisdom i can impart upon anyone are these: anything you think is cool when you are thirteen/fourteen is not.

emily, bill....bryan and i had a little falling out in the fall of 97...tragic really.

7) How many tattoos did you have?
i think by now stick on tattoos had lost their luster so i can say, with no qualifiers, 0.

8) How many piercings?
no new ones....just those same ear piercings.

9) What car did you drive?
ah there was still no driving....a few more years for that.

10) Had your heart broken?
i think i can maybe say yes to this one....though broken is a bit of a stretch. fourteen year old hearts are resilient and not unlike rubber balls...they bounce back pretty quickly...and usually in a totally different direction. wow that was profound.

uh...fourteen. single.

well my nickname was the 'virgin queen'....which by the way was a little ridiculous when you consider that i was fucking 14...what else should i have been?

i was the hostess at Halie's...a little upscale place in pasadena. i was really thin and cute and fabulous, im not gonna lie.

had been in florence for a semester, then in chico for a semester (that was a shit transition by the way) and then i was home and i think about to start my short lived santa barbara experience....

nope

5) Who were your closest friends?
patrick...i was all about the boyfriend. and of course vincent and kirsten.

some yes.

the same ones.

sigh yes....for driving or tv watching....i never knew i was supposed to see clearly beyond five feet in front of me. it was quite a shock to discover that after nearly a quarter of a century of life.

i think by now it is officially safe to say yes, several times....and the bitch of it is, not all by significant others. you get older and then there is a whole world of things that are capable of breaking your heart. the upside of getting older though is that i find peanut butter and jelly sandwiches infinitely more satisfying now. go figure.

single and, finally, uncomplicatedly so.
