blah blah blah

had the words to this one swirling around in my head - another one of those songs lately that i listened to over and over again in the formative years of my life ... all of the ages of which ended with the suffix 'teen' ... those are the years you look back on and feel deliciously sentimental about. when youre bursting at the seams with passion and promise and indignation and bluster (which of course you didnt know yet was bluster). and, if youre lucky (and not all are) you havent made any irrevocable mistakes yet. so i listen to songs like this one again...and ive listened to it many times since then...but i mean really listen to it again...take in every word, every chord....and i feel our cold hard wood floors under my feet while i pace at four in the morning, hear the sputter and the hiss of the sprinklers turning on in the front yard, and taste the salt of my self indulgent but still somehow genuine tears and i find myself wondering why i miss it. i guess for the average person, being miserable when youre sixteen is actually one of the best times of your life.

is that sick? i might be sick. anyway, here we go:

say yes
elliott smith

(p.s. i loved him before he killed himself/was murdered ... that is one ambiguous autopsy report lemme tell you)

Im in love with the world through the eyes of a girl
Whos still around the morning after
We broke up a month ago and I grew up I didnt know
Id be around the morning after
Its always been wait and see
A happy day and then you pay
And feel like shit the morning after
But now I feel changed around and instead falling down
Im standing up the morning after
Situations get fucked up and turned around sooner or later
And I could be another fool or an exception to the rule
You tell me the morning after
Crooked spin cant come to rest
Im damaged bad at best
Shell decide what she wants
Ill probably be the last to know
No one says until it shows and you see how it is
They want you or they dont
Say yes
Im in love with the world through the eyes of a girl
Whos still around the morning after
